Our Story: A Language Of Silk

Banaras did not need another saree shop. It needed a brand women could truly believe in.

For over 25 years, the family behind Neelaya Banaras has lived closely with Banarasi textiles—understanding the yarns, working with weavers, serving more than 3,800 customers and learning what makes a beautiful textile genuinely worth owning.

Over the years, one truth became difficult to ignore.

Authentic Banarasi craftsmanship was often found at one of two extremes: products whose purity was uncertain, or pieces carrying prices far removed from their real value. Between the two stood a woman who simply wanted something genuine, beautifully made and honestly presented—without having to overpay for it.

Neelaya Banaras was born for her.

The name Neelaya means the abode of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. For us, it carries a deeply personal meaning. We believe their presence lives alongside us in Banaras—not only in its temples, but in the strength, colour and spirit of the city.

That spirit also shaped the visual world of Neelaya. India has never been a country of restraint alone. It is expressive, layered and unapologetically colourful. We wanted Neelaya to carry that confidence through bold colours, strong design choices and a personality that never fades quietly into the background.

Rooted in Banaras but created for the woman of today, Neelaya brings together sarees, lehengas, dupattas, stoles, handcrafted Banarasi frames, ties, cushion covers and considered gifts. Our vision extends beyond a wardrobe. We are building a contemporary Indian lifestyle brand through which Banarasi craft can become part of how people dress, celebrate, decorate and gift.

Much of our production is undertaken in-house, while the rest is developed directly with trusted weaving families. Today, around 65 weavers and karigars are associated with our work. This close relationship allows us to understand every product beyond its appearance—from its fabric and weaving technique to the time and skill behind it.

Transparency is not an additional promise at Neelaya; it is how we believe textiles should be sold. Fabrics are disclosed truthfully, handloom techniques are identified clearly, and eligible pure silk products carry Silk Mark certification. Our pricing is considered with equal respect for the hands that make and the person who buys.

Neelaya was envisioned by a young entrepreneur from Banaras who grew up around textiles but wanted to present them differently: with the knowledge of 25+ years, the energy of a new generation and a belief that luxury should feel honest, personal and welcoming.

We also believe that sarees should not have to wait inside wardrobes for weddings and festivals. They can belong to a working morning, an intimate dinner, a journey, a celebration—or an ordinary day that deserves a little more colour.

This belief lives through the Neelaya Naari.

She is not defined by her age, profession, body type or city. She is ambitious, expressive and deeply her own. She respects Indian craft without allowing tradition to decide the limits of her individuality. She does not wait for an occasion to wear what she loves, and she never needs permission to stand out.

When you choose Neelaya, we hope you find more than a product. We hope you find something that feels like it belongs to you—and a community in which you belong.
